Outstanding Medical Achievement by the Urology Department at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam: Successful High-Precision Surgery for the Removal of a Large, Explosive Tumor on the Left Kidney
The Urology team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam successfully saved the life of a patient suffering from a large tumor measuring 16 x 14 cm on his left kidney.
The tumor was of a type prone to internal bleeding, which led to severe pressure build-up within the tumor, causing it to partially rupture. This condition was further complicated by severe inflammation of the left pleural membrane and adhesions between the small and large intestines and the tumor.
The patient was referred to the Urology Clinic at Al-Mouwasat Hospital after being evaluated at several other medical institutions.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, the medical team in the Urology Department, led by Dr. Adel Farhat, Consultant Urologist and Head of the Department, conducted a thorough assessment of the patient's condition and completed all the necessary tests for such cases. With the assistance of the Interventional Radiology team, supervised by Dr. Hossam Fahmy, Consultant in Interventional Radiology, the team performed a procedure to embolize the artery feeding the tumor to control the internal bleeding. They then proceeded with the complete removal of the tumor along with the left kidney.
This surgery was particularly challenging, requiring a high level of skill from the entire surgical team. Thankfully, the patient successfully recovered and was discharged from the hospital to resume his normal life.
