Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam successfully performs varicocele operation by embolization procedure
Under the supervision of the consultant radiologist Dr. Hossam Fahmy, the Interventional Radiology Team at Mowasat Hospital in Dammam succeeded in performing varicocele operation by embolization. The operation was performed by means of catheters, where all veins causing varicocele were imaged and blocked using coils.
Treatment by interventional radiotherapy using catheters is the latest method for treating varicocele, where the vein causing the varicose is blocked using coils or by injecting a glue to block the vein. This catheter takes around one hour and the treatment is completed through a small 2mm opening in the body, leaving no marks on the skin due to the surgery.
It is noteworthy that a varicocele is an enlargement of a group of veins in the scrotum due to the backflow of blood into the veins due to a weakness in the valves therein.
This type of treatment is safer than normal surgeries and does not require stay at the hospital for a period to recover, where the patient can depart after the catheter within one hour and returns to his life normally.
It is worth noting that this technique is the most advanced and is in line with the vision of Mowasat Medical Services Company to attract highly specialized talents and procuring the latest medical technologies and equipment.
