Life Changing Treatment of a 5-Year-Old Girl with Leukemia at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam
The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam successfully saved the life of a 5-year-old girl suffering from severe symptoms, including high fever, pallor, abdominal swelling, difficulty moving, and rapid breathing.
Upon her arrival at the hospital, Dr. Wael Zakary, a consultant in pediatric hematology and oncology, conducted a series of diagnostic tests. These included a CT scan of the chest and abdomen, and an MRI of the spine. The tests revealed severe lung inflammation with pleural effusion, intense intestinal inflammation, swollen lymph nodes, and erosion in some vertebrae, which caused spinal compression and led to weakness in movement and difficulty in bowel movements.
A complete blood count and bone marrow biopsy were also performed, revealing a significant decrease in all blood components and the presence of cancerous cells at a rate of 90%.
Dr. Wael Zakary initiated chemotherapy treatment for over six months and stabilized the affected spinal vertebrae.
Thankfully, the child's health condition improved significantly. Follow-up tests showed a recovery in the blood and bone marrow, with the chest and abdominal inflammations subsiding. The pressure on the spine was relieved, and the girl regained her ability to move normally, as well as her ability to eat and have normal bowel movements.
It is noteworthy that this type of treatment relies on advanced medical technology, aligning with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision of attracting top talent in specialized fields and utilizing the latest medical equipment and techniques in this field.
