Successful Radical Removal of Cancerous Right Kidney Using Robotic Surgery
The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar successfully alleviated the suffering of a 70-year-old patient who was undergoing dialysis due to chronic kidney failure. During one of his dialysis sessions, the nephrology consultants diagnosed a tumor. The patient was immediately referred to the Urology Department at the hospital to complete the necessary medical procedures and tests.
Initial assessments confirmed that the cancer had not spread throughout the patient’s body, with the tumor localized in the right kidney and measuring over 12 cm. The tumor was pressing directly on the pelvic vein, with some enlarged lymph nodes on the renal artery and vein.
After completing the required medical preparations and in collaboration with the nephrology consultant, a precise surgical intervention was performed under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Khushaym, Consultant in Urology, Male Infertility, and Andrology. The surgery utilized robotic technology, making four incisions each under 8 mm.
The surgery was successful, involving the removal of lymph nodes and extraction of the kidney with the tumor and lymph nodes through an additional incision of about 5 cm. The procedure took less than two and a half hours, with blood loss limited to under 100 ml.
The patient was able to leave the hospital shortly thereafter with stable vital signs and no notable complications. He continued to receive his necessary dialysis sessions.
It is worth noting that this type of procedure depends on advanced technology and highly trained medical staff, aligning with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision to attract skilled specialists in precise fields and employ the latest medical techniques and treatment options.
