Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Madinah Relieves a Patient's Suffering by Installing Artificial Cervical Discs to Address Disc Herniation Issues
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Neurosurgery Consultant, performed a surgery to implant two artificial discs in the cervical vertebrae for a 42-year-old patient who had been experiencing severe neck and arm pain, as well as weakened hand movement.
The patient was initially seen in the outpatient clinics of the Neurosurgery Department, where a series of necessary tests were conducted, including X-rays, CT scans, MRI, as well as electromyography and nerve conduction studies for the arms. The results indicated herniated discs between the fifth, sixth, and seventh cervical vertebrae.
A precise diagnosis was made, and the steps of the surgery, along with potential risks, were explained to the patient, who was psychologically prepared and gave his written consent.
Thanks to God, the surgery was successful, with the latest techniques utilized in this delicate procedure, including spinal imaging devices and nerve response monitoring systems.
After the surgery, the patient spent three days in the hospital for recovery and treatment, showing notable improvement. He was provided with the necessary medication and follow-up instructions for the outpatient clinic at Al-Mouwasat Hospital.
It is worth noting that this type of surgery is one of the most advanced procedures in the field of spinal surgery, aligning with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision of attracting highly skilled specialists and providing the latest medical technologies and equipment.
