Successful IVF Procedure for a Patient Suffering from Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia
The IVF procedure carried out by Dr. Amin Al-Jurdi, Consultant in Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Infertility Treatment, along with the team at the Fertility Unit at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam, led to fulfilling the dream of a patient to conceive.
The patient was suffering from Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia (a rare platelet disorder affecting blood clotting), which poses a significant risk of bleeding. This condition made the egg retrieval procedure after stimulation highly risky.
However, in collaboration with the Hematology Team, and by the will of God, the operation was successfully completed after the patient received blood and platelet transfusions before the procedure.
As a result, three first-grade embryos were produced and frozen. One embryo was later transferred into the uterus, and the pregnancy was successfully achieved.
