Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam successfully performs the first of its kind heating of malignant liver tumor using microwave ablation technique
The Mouwasat Hospital Medical Team in Dammam succeeded in ending the suffering of a patient with a malignant liver tumor due to the spread of a previously treated tumor by successfully performing microwave ablation of the liver tumor.
After the patient arrived at the hospital, Dr. Hossam Fahmy, Consultant Radiologist at Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam, reviewed the case and supervised performing microwave ablation in coordination with the respective Oncologist.
The tumor was completely heated, where the microwave needle was directed using various rays’ ways, such as ultrasound, and injected under the tumor to be heated. This technique can replace the traditional surgery, which is considered one of the major surgical operations that are performed in such cases. By performing this technique, the patient will not suffer from the complications resulting from these traditional surgeries and his stay in the hospital will be shorter.
The patient was able to leave the hospital after three days of performing microwave ablation successfully and was transferred to the tumor clinic for further follow-up and checking, and he is currently in a good condition.
It is worth noting that this technique is the most advanced and is in line with the vision of Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company to attract highly specialized talents and procuring the latest medical technologies and equipment.
