Microscopic Technique for Repairing Sensory Nerve Injuries Contributes to Treating a Patient at Al-Mouwasat Hospital
The medical team at the emergency department of Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah received a patient who had suffered an accidental injury, namely the amputation of the distal phalanx of the left thumb, resulting in loss of sensation in the affected fingertip. The patient was examined, and the plastic surgery team, under the supervision of Dr. Amr Khatir, a consultant in plastic surgery, was called upon. After a clinical examination, Dr. Khatir immediately made the decision to perform an urgent surgery to reattach the nerve.
The challenge was to reattach the sensory nerve for the patient, which is done using a highly precise technique through surgical microscopy. This procedure requires special skills in using fine sutures that are not visible to the naked eye.
Thankfully through the expeirence of the doctors and the grace of god, the patient was discharged from the hospital the day after the surgery. She was then followed up in the outpatient clinics and a plan for physical therapy sessions was developed for her rehabilitation.
It is worth mentioning that this type of operation relies on modern medical techniques, which aligns with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision of attracting highly skilled medical professionals and precise medical specialties, while providing the latest medical technologies and equipment.
